Tips on how to enjoy summer to the fullest

share

In Lithuania, we are not spoiled by good weather, so when the summer season comes, we try to make the most of every day. This is when dresses fluttering in the wind replace light linen bags, fancy handbags, and warm clothes. When the sun shines, even our thoughts become lighter – because of this, we have more desire and strength to engage in fun activities. If you have run out of ideas for what to do in the warm season, check out the tips for making the most of summer below.

Become a tourist in your own city

You have probably noticed that you eventually lose interest in your surroundings when you live in one place for a long time. Summer is a great time to look at them from a new angle. You can do this using these ideas:

  •  Explore the city’s attractions. If your city is large, you likely have not visited all its most famous places – plan to do this. It is true that even in smaller towns you can find interesting things – perhaps some places have been renovated so that you will not even be able to recognize them.
  •  Visit museums. While visiting the city’s attractions, do not miss museums, exhibitions, or other similar events. There will likely be more of them in the summer, so meaningful leisure time is guaranteed.
  • Try to get lost. Try to go for a walk at least a few times without any plan. Walking along unusual routes can reveal unseen streets, unexpected objects, and other beauties. It is even better if you travel with linen bags in which you can put a book, a blanket, or a towel for an unexpected swim—this way, you will be prepared for any scenario of the day.

Rediscover your yard

Not only is your city full of new discoveries, but also your yard itself. Here are some activities you can do there:

  •  Have a picnic. Change your dinner table to the grass or an outdoor table – the same linen tablecloths will work well for decoration. Perhaps the fresh air will inspire even more interesting conversations. I probably don’t need to remind you that phones and other smart devices should stay home.
  • Go camping. If there is room in the yard for a tent and a fire pit, you can stay in a tent for the weekend. Have dinner by the campfire, and make coffee on an open fire in the morning – this way, you can achieve the peace of nature without leaving your yard.
  • Organize a movie screening. Rent or borrow a projector, hang a sheet on the garage or house wall and watch a movie under the open sky. If you choose a plot suitable for children, don’t forget to invite the neighbors.
  •  Enjoy the peace. Find a corner to read a book or have a coffee in peace. Maybe this will become a new ritual with which you start or end your day.

Awaken your inner child

Regardless of whether you have children, summer is a great time to have fun and remember your childhood games – after all, it was the period we all looked forward to the most. To place it, you can play a game of chess, badminton, or any other game in the yard – chase, hide and seek, or other nostalgic activities. And when the weather is worse, you can move the fun inside – then it’s a good idea to pull out board games that you haven’t played for a long time or come up with new ones yourself. In other words, you can spend your free summer evenings doing activities you don’t have time for in your busy life.

Be genuinely lazy

Although you want to make the most of the short warm season, you should not forget about yourself and your needs – sometimes, you can also get tired of intense entertainment. To welcome autumn, rested and charged with good emotions and additional energy, set aside time for a quiet, more passive rest. Spend the day in the yard on a hammock, safely pamper yourself with sunbathing, and use the more remarkable days for a cozy time with a book or TV series. This way, you will rest, regain your strength, and be ready to experience summer at one hundred percent. The most important thing is listening to yourself and your body – it will let you know when to slow down.

Spend as much time as possible by the water

Water activities are almost the most summery activity – in other seasons, they can only be enjoyed indoors or in foreign countries. Therefore, during the summer, it is advisable to travel to a pond, lake, sea, or any other body of water as often as possible. Here, you can swim, play water games, build sandcastles with your children, or read a book in peace. Linen bags will fit a swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, or other bathing essentials – if you live near a body of water, you can take them with you even when you walk. After all, you want to make as many spontaneous decisions as possible in the summer!

Learn new things

This advice is valuable all year round – summer is no exception. For what activities

Choosing will depend only on your interests, dreams, and enthusiasm. If you don’t know where to start, you can try the ideas below:

  • Decorate your yard with never-before-seen plants;
  •  Learn all the constellations and share your knowledge with friends in the moonlight;
  •  Discover a new sports activity;
  • Nurture long-forgotten talents;
  •  Find interesting knitting, crocheting, playing, or other similar lessons on the Internet;
  • Try recipes that seemed difficult until now.

Create unforgettable family moments

While the children are on vacation, spend as much time with them as possible – this will strengthen your bond and create shared family memories. Ask your children what activities they would like to try – they will likely have more than one interesting idea not mentioned in this article. Don’t forget to capture all these moments: filling out a summer adventure album could become a new family tradition. There can be more, from visiting favorite places to cozy family evenings on the terrace. Among all these activities, you will find at least a few you want to try this summer. You can come up with more similar activities – if you are open to new suggestions, this warm season can take an exciting turn.
