7 Tips How to Pack a Suitcase Efficiently

share

Once you have a list of essentials, another critical task is to pack them. Here are essential 7 tips on how to pack a suitcase efficiently – these tricks should work for you.

1. Clarify Luggage Restrictions

Airlines’ luggage restrictions differ. And even if the sizes of the suitcases are very similar, their weight can vary. Double-checking your airline’s rules and luggage options is a good idea to avoid unpleasant surprises and extra charges. Better safe than sorry, they say.

2. Rolling is the Key

This trick is gaining more and more popularity. Rolling saves up space and allows you to see all your clothes at a glance. To save as much space as possible by rolling, follow these steps:

1. Lay the clothes flat on a hard surface.

2. Fold in half lengthwise.

3. Fold the sleeves of T-shirts or blouses inwards. Fold the trousers and shorts bottom toward the waist.

4. Roll by pressing firmly and moving from bottom to top.

5. Gently pull from the sides to smooth out the wrinkles.

It would help if you remembered that clothes stored this way tend to crease more often. If some fabrics are particularly prone to creasing, it is more worthwhile to fold them.

We believe you do not want to waste your holiday time ironing clothes. It would be best to leave clothes made of crumpling materials at home in such a case.

However, if you have a business trip or decide to take the shirt with you, it is important to fold it properly before placing it in the suitcase. There may be different ways of doing this, but you can try this one:

  • Button up and place the shirt so that the buttons rest on the surface. Place a magazine on top, near the collar.
  • Fold the side of the shirt along the magazine line and fold up the sleeves in a zigzag. They must fit in the area of the folded part of the shirt.
  • Fold in half – the fold line should be at the edge of the magazine.
  • Take out the magazine and place the shirt on the top luggage layer, above all the rolls.
  • If you are worried about the collar of your shirt, you can put a rolled belt inside it. The collar will remain stiff, and the belt will have a place, so it’s a double benefit.

3. Categorize Your Cosmetics

Consider arranging your things in a suitcase, so that you don’t have to turn it upside down searching for something.

Travel and toiletry bags are perfect if you want to avoid clutter and find all the cosmetics or hygiene essentials in a glimpse. Add them to your list when planning. In most cases, one large travel bag is enough during the trip, but if you think you won’t be able to fit everything in it, take two – there will be even less clutter. Such makeup and toiletry bags come in different sizes, so you should find the most suitable option.

4. Think of Where to Keep the Lingerie and Underwear

Suppose you are not worried about packing underwear for the trip ahead. Our guess is you will think about where to put ready-to-wash underwear or lingerie unnoticeably and neatly.

Such planning becomes helpful when traveling with hand luggage only. However, you can avoid such dilemmas if you think of them in advance. Travel laundry bags will be handy for any trip: you can use them for clean and already-used underwear. More aesthetics and neatness – less stress packing and unpacking!

Placing bras, place them one on top of the other – in such a way they will retain shape better. In addition, you can fill the cups with underwear and then pack them in a laundry bag.

5. Arrange Your Things Tidily

No one wants to unpack and find their clothes dirty – that’s why you need to think about the arrangement and tidiness.

It is best to put your shoes in bags, or you can use shower caps. It is even better to pack each shoe separately, making it easier to pack. Some packing experts advise turning clothes inside-out: if something smears your contents, the “good” side remains clean.

Don’t forget about breakable, shatterable, or scratchable items. You can pack them in socks – such things will not come into contact with others. You can also use a small toiletry bag or cosmetic pouch with a zipper. It is often recommended for keeping various wires so that you do not have to waste your vacation time trying to untangle them all.

6. Use Every Space Gap

There is a joke that the packing resembles the well-known Tetris game: you need to fill each free gap with items or clothes of the correct size. If you are creative, you will succeed! Of course, a huge help is not only your creativity but also the following tips:

  • Use the inside of shoes for storing socks, belts, watches, or other small items. This will leave more space for other things and, at the same time, preserve the shapes of the shoes.
  • Layers: pack heavier items closer to the suitcase’s wheels to distribute the weight evenly. Then at the beginning fill in with rolls of clothing and leave more formal, sensitive to wrinkling, or otherwise whimsical clothes on top.
  • If you haven’t rolled up your belts in shoes yet, stretch them along the suitcase’s edges. Packing them differently may seem to take up too much valuable space.

7. Remember to get souvenirs

No, we don’t mean that you should plan right ahead what souvenirs you should bring your loved ones. What we mean is you should leave at least some free space.

If the suitcase is full, you will have no choice but to look for souvenirs and gifts at the airport, and prices are not always friendly there. It is best to leave yourself a chance to pick from a broader range for a better price.

Experienced travelers use a trick: they pack shoes and clothes to which they are already planning to say goodbye. If you take at least a few wardrobe details that you can leave behind, you will have extra space for gifts while heading back.

With all these tips in mind and a list of the essentials, you’ll pack your suitcase effectively and quickly. The most important thing is to avoid extra stress and not leave this mission until the last minute!
