7 Common Mistakes Made Trying to Create a Cozy Home Interior

share

Even knowing the ideas listed above, a cozy home may not look all the way you expected. It is possible you made the most common mistakes when designing the interior. If you are only starting the renovation works, it is useful to get acquainted with them in advance.

1. Mind the Big Picture of Your Home

In creating a cozy interior, we sometimes get too focused on the details. Although it seems that all things radiate warmth and coziness in one way or another, it may be difficult to say so about the whole atmosphere. This often happens when you forget to think about the big picture. Knowing in advance what kind of environment you want to create, makes it much easier to choose every detail. Then the interaction of those details will be completely different.

By the way, in order to avoid another mistake, it should be mentioned that while choosing furniture, you should not try to match them all perfectly. By doing so, the final result will resemble a cold exhibition hall, not a cozy home. Of course, it is definitely a good idea to find a few connecting points. But nothing bad will happen if they do not fit perfectly by color or style. Such collisions of color or style will help create a visually appealing, dynamic space that certainly won’t look too eclectic.

2. Too Many Open Shelves

Open shelves may be very useful – they are perfect for books, art, or other collectibles, but don’t overstuff them. If you leave some space, the overall view will be much cleaner and the shelf itself will match the interior of the room

You should not overdo yourself with the quantity as well. If you are looking for storage furniture for electronics, cables, games, or toys, you should choose closed-type shelves or boxes. Such furniture will not have a negative effect on the overall interior.

3. Overdoing with the Pillows

When developing a cozy home environment, you often have to remember a good old rule that says less is more. The same goes for decorative pillows. Two or three such accessories are a great choice when you want to enliven the interior with more colors or patterns. But, it is not necessary to choose plenty of pillows of different colors and shapes. Although they add coziness, too much of them will create a chaotic environment that you would like to avoid in any room.

4. Table Covered with Unnecessary Details and Things

Here, we do not mean the above-mentioned table runners, linen napkins, or bouquets of flowers. All these details are definitely associated with coziness. Still, you’ll probably agree that keeping such a neat table is usually hard enough.

Car keys, books, and other miscellaneous items often find their “place” on them. It is very convenient to put them here, and then you don’t have to look for where to put them for a long time. They all create a messy and a bit chaotic environment.

If it is hard to give up such habits, try grouping these things together. If you throw them in a stylish bowl, the overall look will be much more charming and definitely cozier.

5. The Size and Layout of the Room are not Taken into Account

All the tips above can help create a cozy home, but they and any other solutions should be tailored according to the size of the room and its layout.

For example, you will likely want to avoid a lot of extra detail and functionality will be preferred in a smaller room. In a large room, you will boldly use darker colors that can be made cozy. You won’t want to hide large windows under heavy curtains, and an extra flower pot will be the last idea in a small living room. You will surely find more similar exceptions, so first of all, think about how each piece of advice could be applied to Your home. This is the only way to preserve coziness.

6. All the Furniture is Pushed to the Walls

Naturally, you want to create a sense of a bigger space in all rooms. Many people choose to achieve this by pushing furniture back, against the walls.

If the furniture is older and the backs are obviously worn off, it may seem a win-win solution. Yet, interior designers call such a solution a very big mistake that changes the sense of space.

If you leave a gap between the furniture and the walls and push it toward the center of the room, you will create a much more intimate, warmer environment. It will look inviting for a conversation and is perfect for living spaces. You can easily try out this experiment, but it is likely that positive changes will be noticed immediately.

7. Style is Preferred vs Comfort

You may forget about personal comfort when trying to develop a cozy style. But whatever design decisions you make, comfort must always come first. Just think about the hotels. Although their interiors look flawless, you still want to return home after a while. This shows that choosing style instead of comfort means risking creating too practical, template spaces that radiate a kind of coldness.

It is even worse to shape your interior trusting the prevailing trends. Yes, you can get some very useful ideas from trends, but keep in mind that they change faster than home makeovers happen, so you should always think about versatility.

It is easy to notice that the most common mistake is overdoing the details. That is why it is best to start with a few details and then, add some more if needed.

Coziness is often associated with personal comfort. So when nurturing the environment of your home, your first focus should be what is best for you and what works best for you. If you feel good in your space, those around you will not take the time to notice it!
